Project Drawdown is a final project at Kihei Charter that inspires freshman to research and learn about solutions that can help mitigate the further damage to Maui and our planet due to climate change. This is a project that involves almost all classes in our daily schedule, virtual and in person.
Our Solution:Our solution is researching and learning ways that students and staff can help make Kihei Charter go net zero. A net zero campus doesn't emit carbon, and consumes as much energy as it produces. |
How it can be implamented on campus:Staff and students at Kihei Charter can help the school go net zero by turning off the lights in their last period of the day, and generally not use any unneccesary power. The school is also in the process of installing a battery backup system to store power, and solar power provides the energy the school demands daily. |
How it mitigates climate change:Zero net buildings help mitigate climate change by eliminating the energy derived by fossil fuels. Also net zero avoids greenhouse gas emissions that are associated with the electricity production. |
